
The School Room at Southwell Workhouse, Nottinghamshire
Cee’s Challenge topic is Far Away….so rather than distance I thought that time, as in Long Ago, would be a suitable subject.
The school room above from the 1800’s is in the one time ‘Workhouse’ for the poor and destitute. The families were separated, men in one section of the prison like building with women and children in another. A tough working regime was enforced and living conditions harsh. But I suppose one benefit was that children did get some education, a grounding in basics, from a dedicated teacher…..and that is more than many Victorian children received.

It does now but I guess when created wasn’t as beautiful to those enforced to use it…..but then again much better than for many others in Victorian times
