Our part of Central England has ‘enjoyed’ something of a drought. Well last night it rained, real rain and the first for weeks and not before time too….I could say that our garden needed it, which it does but our reservoirs are in much more need as you can see.
The green and lush edge to Staunton Reservoir is normally well under water, right up to the tree line. This is also the ‘last in line’ of a number of reservoirs that run from the Peak District down the Derwent Valley most are even drier than Staunton.
Take a close look at the image above…did you spot the dead fish? Well it is a desiccated Pike. I guess it died before the water receded as it must be of some age. A rough measure and I estimate it to be 1.25 meters long….and that’s big, see for yourself…
And just to prove that old fable ‘The Calm before the Storm’ a closing image of a late summers evening over the South Derbyshire fields. As to the drought, well I guess we will soon be complaining that we have had too much rain!
