The 10th April and still no sign of spring. New growth and colour is just not there….so in an attempt to keep our spirits positive we brought just a little spring colour into the house to add some cheer….
Outside it is just a little brighter than of late but even though the sun does shine on us to-day it is still very much an autumnal/winter scene in the woods…….
It is also time to access the damage reaped by the winter winds which seem to have blown incessantly for months. But I suppose damage could be worse and may be this is a natural way to thin out the weaker timbers……
Silver Birch are usually one of our first trees to send out new leaves, prior to that they usually develop a reddish brown hue on the top branches, as sure sign that a new season is about to start. But not this year, as you can see the Birch is still black and very much bare……
It is still very sobering to look across the woodland, recognising that a quarter of the year has passed and nearly halfway through another month, yet still see so little to suggest that spring is on the way. ……..
May be when it does eventually arrive it will be like an express train and swish past us without our knowing…..an explosion of colour and scent will be very welcome and may be it will come with a rush.
THE GLOVE SAGE continues
Those who follow the blog will recall the mystery of all the left handed adult gloves, yep always a left never a right!
You will also know that we stumbled upon the occasional children’s glove or mitten and these have always been right handed!
Well this morning we come across a toddlers tiny glove…..and yes it is a right handed glove – the plot thickens.
