Tupping!……An old English word now more commonly used in the countryside at this time of the year when the Ram is let out with the Ewe’s. This time last year i stopped to admire this fine Herdwick* Ram but as the Shepherd told me this fellow would have to wait another year before he was allowed to indulge in his lustful intents……..
So I expect he is now wondering the Lakeland Fells of Cumbria with a glint in his eyes…..no doubt the future of this special Lakeland breed is safe in his loins!
* Herdwick Sheep are very much the sheep of the Lakeland Fells. Much loved by Beatrix Potter who apart from being an expert Judge of Show Sheep also did a great deal to ensure the breed was not lost from the hills.
