The Herdwick Ram …. A Handsome Fellow
Looking all relaxed and ready to go. It will soon be time for the Ram to be let loose with the flock of Herdwick Sheep. Herdwicks are a hardy mountain sheep, still the popular breed of choice in the Lake District. Their thick fleeces give protection from all but the severest weathers. Tough as they are, their faces for me show a softness of character.

A Handsome Chappie
A rather handsome Herdwick Ram….. caught in a rather placid mood a couple of months before he was called to duty….no doubt there will be a few more handsome Hardwick’s wandering the Lakeland Fells.
Thought that he was an ideal candidate for this weeks Cees B & W Challenge on the topic of ‘heads’

Tupping!……An old English word now more commonly used in the countryside at this time of the year when the Ram is let out with the Ewe’s. This time last year i stopped to admire this fine Herdwick* Ram but as the Shepherd told me this fellow would have to wait another year before he was allowed to indulge in his lustful intents……..
So I expect he is now wondering the Lakeland Fells of Cumbria with a glint in his eyes…..no doubt the future of this special Lakeland breed is safe in his loins!
* Herdwick Sheep are very much the sheep of the Lakeland Fells. Much loved by Beatrix Potter who apart from being an expert Judge of Show Sheep also did a great deal to ensure the breed was not lost from the hills.
