…..From the Odd Box

Strath Suardal, Isle of Skye

I am glad I rediscovered this image from my ‘Odd Box’.  I can remember well when it was taken.  Like many visitors to the Isle of Skye, mountaineers and photographers in particular, I have passed this Loch many times.

We are all heading for the famous beauty spot at Elgol with its views and access to Scavaig and the Cuillin.  But this Loch, lets give it its proper name Loch Cill Chriosd, is located right beside a very narrow stretch of this single track road.  No place to park and perhaps just simply ignored in our dash for the ‘real’ view points of the Cuillins.

But on this day there were road works, and at this point they had closed the road for 20 minutes whilst they moved some heavy machinery.  It took some 5minutes before I realised that I could actually get out of the car and wander along the Loch side.  So grabbing the camera out I went.

Loch Cill Chriosd is, as you can see, a shallow Loch and now gradually becoming overgrown with Reeds and grasses, great cover for wildfowl. Whilst the hills beyond lack the stature and fame of the Cuillin range, they are not short of character, Meall Coire Forsaidh has grand views down Strath Suardal and really is worthy of much closer inspection than just a passing glance.

( “THE ODD BOX”. The Odd Box , is especially for Odds and Ends, it is the file where I drop those images, that I have not processed earlier in the year as part of a series or project or simply lacked time at that moment, where they can be safely stored. I can then go back to them at leisure, explore and see what surprises await)
