Spring is …..a Beech.

Spring is still very slow to make its mark upon both gardens and countryside in our part of the world…..but there are signs that life is returning.  Passing my favourite old bent Beech trees this morning it was pleasing to see fresh bright green splashes of new leaves sparkling against the darker trunks of the woods……

For the most part trees are still either bare of new leaf or show buds that have swelled and about to burst.  There are a few that seem to have reached a halfway point with both large swollen buds and some new leaves that have crept out to test the climate…

But one Beech out in the meadows was determined to be first and overnight miracle of growth has occurred, a bare skeleton one day and a rich head of new growth the next…..a very welcome sign of spring….

I suspect that this week we will see a rush of new growth may be even some Bluebells…who knows, May is just a couple of days away so we will have to wait and see what the start of the new month will bring.
