Weekly Photo Challenge…Three (Signs of the Times)

Signs-1

Signs-2

Signs-3

Three …..Signs of the Times.  Sad to say these are now familiar signs (and there are many, many more than these three) on our High Streets and Shopping Precincts across the country.  Retail Sales are still very high, if not exactly booming, or so the stats say. But it must be for the select few.  Retail outlets are closing at a fast rate and empty shops now  familiar to all….in some locations there are more outlets empty than those trading.   Lots of initiatives have been tried but so far none appear to offer a definitive solution.  ‘To Let’  seems likely to stay for awhile.

But to cheat in this weeks challenge of Three, here is one more image…..At least one Retail Sector seems to be able to take advantage of the situation……..Charity Shops….so I guess there are some winners!

In the Rough………a Sign Too Far!

In-the-Rough

Our local Council is a bit over keen on Risk Assessment resulting to in a proliferation  of Safety signs…whilst some are obviously of benefit to the public, others are perhaps not. I rather think this one is a little misplaced as even the most tenacious of golfers would hesitate to play out of this rough! In any case you can see what the local birds think of it.

Signs of the Times…….

Folk have always put up signs telling us what to do, or not to do, some helpful other just obstructive, many  are  to establish ownership….THIS IS MINE – KEEP OFF.  Some shops even have signs explaining why they are rude to customers!

May be it is a habit that has become more prevalent as we post messages on the blog, Facebook, twitter and the rest. So I guess it is no surprise that any self respecting household that wants to be ‘in tune’ with fashion, displays a sign or two about their home.  Every Garden Centre, Gift Shop and Décor Boutique have masses to make your choice from….

It would seem that most of these signs are produced in China then shipped halfway round the world for us to grace the kitchen, bathroom or wherever. China the historical land of proverbs…..I wonder what they make (apart from a load of dosh) of our modern day sayings and proverbs?

SHIPS CAT ….or was it a Kangaroo

Angus-_0090

It shows my naivety, I thought sailing boats were reputed to have  a ‘ships cat’.  But the above sign on a fishing shed at a Scottish Harbour seems to indicate that Otters, Leopards and even Kangaroo’s find their way on board…..a whole new meaning to the saying ‘Hop on Board mate’
