I wish all of you a Happy New Year and do hope that all your wishes for you and yours do come true….. I am also very aware that for a great many this last year was not a good one, but with a New Year about to start I do hope that life is so much better for everyone.
Just to prove that New Year ‘Good Wishes’ are not something new here is one of my Victorian Greetings Cards (a little worse for wear, but according to the message on the back it was written in 1888, so not surprising)……
There does seem to be an obsession with weight these days, lets dress it up with the term obesity and make folk feel guilty, but the second line of the above verse may suggest that it is not just a modern phenomena…. “My figure bulges bloatedly “. Maybe it is just an after Christmas factor.
If you continue to read the rest of that verse you will also see that man’s best friend has long been the love of a dog (in my case two).
I also thought it would be a good idea to select one image to represent the past year, not easy but I have selected this one of Cumbria. The weather was the governing factor so here we have as much variety of weather in one shot as I could find.
Yes we had some sunshine, we also had winds that sent storm clouds scurrying across the skies, we had lots of rain, full rivers and lush green grass…….
