Is this May ?…..
The weather still conceives to deceive us all. In truth it has been like that from Autumn through Winter and now through the Spring. Not sure but there does seem to be, if not a seismic shift, a definite slip and widening within the seasons. This Spring we have enjoyed record highs in the temperatures, we have also had torrential rains and swept by severe winds…..and if that is not enough temperatures have fallen to below average.
This has had noticeable effect of the woods and plants. Bluebells were reluctant to flower, when they did they present some lovely carpets of blue. Then they started to fall back and we thought it was time to say ‘goodbye’ till next Spring but they have had other ideas and shown in places a last minute revival. The Beech Trees buds were also at first reluctant to burst but now they drench the branches with their unique spring green leaf. Slowly the woodland shadow deepens with the woodland canopy now offering shade, shelter and secure camouflage for the nesting birds.
