A Little Sun must SHINE………

The sun appeared for a short while this afternoon and it is amazing just how much brighter your spirits feel, immediately uplifted and cheerful. People smile and good humour is shared.  Whilst in the garden everything suddenly shines with a new glow….

Basket-and-clock

Lavender is now coming into flower and soon the scent will drift about the house

and Roses bring a bold splash of colour and the promise of more buds to come

Rose-1

But the Clematis is now all but over….the last of the flowers are starting to drop and those still remaining starting to provide food for the insects

BUT as for that sun…well it soon proved to be only a fleeting visit and the rains returned once again. Please return SOON!

Still-it-Rains

P.S.

It does at time seem selfish to complain about both the lack of sun and the excess of rain over this English summer.  All the more so when one sees the tragic drought and wild fires, crop destruction and loss across large parts of North America.  Then we have monsoon, mud slides and floods bring death and destruction in the Far East.  The weather does seem to be extreme in so many parts of the globe…..so forgive me if at times my complaints seem trivial when you are enduring much worse.

  1. David, you just have too much fun when the sun shines. The lavender and the clematis are really inspiired, and beautifully developed, but i’m nearly always partial to the saturated colors we get when the sky is overcast and a big, soft lightbox. And shooting in the rain adds that extra challenge, and is so rewarding when it works. Your fourth image has it all for me.

  2. The sun and rain do do wonders for our gardens ‘tho. Yours looks beautiful. My faves are the top pic (I get a real sense of ‘cottage’ here, which I like), the lavender is simply superb — the detail and colour, and the bottom raindrops with the texture. Excellent work, david! Liked.
