Not much Sunshine….

We headed off for the Upper Derwent Valley, Derbyshire this afternoon to try and catch some autumnal colours and some of the promised autumn sunshine.  Well, as they say you cannot have everything as the sun only made a very fleeting appearance in what remained to be grey skies.   Still the colours were great for the fog weary eyes and full of promise of more to come.  Here at Howden Reservoir the bracken added to the autumnal ambience………

At least we know that a return trip should be made if the weather does improve….but with temperatures down to 5c and even a flurry if snow before we headed for home it may be very good fortune if we succeed.

  1. You are fortunate to have protracted colors. This is our last day for the year in northern Minnesota, and practically all the colorful leaves are down. The landscape is a somber palette of grays and fading browns. Yet it has its own special charm for those who care to take a close look. As does each season in its turn. Very nice post, David.

    1. I know we shouldn’t complain in my part of the world as we do enjoy a rich variety over the seasons. But this year has not run to the usual plan from the very start with the obvious knock-on effect on wildlife. We highlight the plight of birds, insects and mammals but often the trees are neglected in these comments. This year has seen the spread of several identified infections in an increasing variety of trees and others are yet to be named. Indeed there is great charm in enjoying the seasons but one has to worry as to what really is happening.
