Woodland Glow….and autumnal change

Autumn is well and truly here as this weekend across the U.K. we adjusted our clocks  (one hour backwards to GMT).  But more significantly the sun has passed that point where its decline to the south suddenly takes on a new faster pace. But that lower sun seems to be just as bright and this morning at first light it seemed to act as a spotlight in the woods, here lighting a batch of young bracken forcing its way upwards in the shelter of a Pine……

It is remarkable that in just over a week the sun is so much lower.  The result is that it now below the woodland canopy able to flood the woods with its warming morning glow……

Everywhere the signs that autumn progresses and the first signs that winter approaches are now very evident.

Leaves cloak the woodland floor, yet this Sweet Chestnut still has a touch of rich green about it.

Whilst overnight the leaves of this Beech (below) have succumbed to the changes and silently dropped to form yet another golden carpet
