Some parts of the U.K. had snow this weekend, others frosty dawns, a sure sign that Winter approaches. For us it is a splash of colour that suddenly arrives in our garden. We have a winter flowering Chrysanthemum. and this weekend its buds burst ………
These button size (3cm) flower heads seem so vulnerable yet they will see off all but the severest frosts and will continue to make new buds that will cover the bush with colour for, I hope, several weeks to come…..may be even Christmas!
But Autumn has not done with us yet, early morning in the woods is still a colourful experience to be enjoyed. Chestnut and Beech out bidding each other to be the brightest beacons on a November day…..
But the Beech are also continuing their fight to retain a summer feeling with their lime green leaves contrasting with the browns and gold’s….
Beech are now either in their full golden glow…or now stand naked having dropped their foliage overnight….
But fallen leaves make there own pictures where ever they fall……
Autumn also makes it’s mark out on the fields. The carpets of fungi…Bouquets of Mushrooms as some called them, is perhaps a better description.
We will let the Beech bring the final sparkle for to-day…..and winter can wait for another day.![]()

Those pink flowers are beautiful! Lovely shots, David!
We’ve had our first snowstorms, then a jump to 70s weather, then another quick sharp dip in temps and lots of snow for the upcoming weekend.

How I would love to explore those beautiful beech woods! Their snakelike bark and sinuous shapes have long been a source of fascination for me. Wonderful!
