Tall Trees……..

Larch

” Everything on earth has its own time and its own season “

For the Larch Tree that has to be the end of autumn, when all the Larch Needles drop, and we are left with these tall sentinels.

Many of you will have guessed over the years, that I do have an affinity with trees…..  and as each season changes and progresses my favourite trees come and go.  Right now it is the Larch.

Everything changes…. but the need for care in these troubled times must still be our priority, so……

Mix Up – Stir Up Sunday

Kitchen-2

By tradition, this Sunday, the last before Advent,  is know as Stir Up Sunday.  The day when the Christmas Plum Puddings and Christmas Cakes were mixed, steamed or baked.  Again by tradition the younger members of the family were encouraged to stir the mix and make a wish.  Not sure just how many folk continue with this Christmas custom.

What I can remember, is that my mother was rather dismissive of Stir Up Sunday…..  “Far Too Late  – one needs time, several months for the Puddings and Cakes, rich in Brandy, to mature”.  It was a principle that many of the older generation adhered to and many still do…. and I can vouch for the rich taste that patience provided.

No matter when you Mix Up or Stir Up, the process and the baking always creates that special Christmas is Coming aroma.  Anticipation.

As always…..

Social Distancing…. and Christmas !

_DSF1215qqq

If this was Rudolph, you could say he was keeping a very big Social Distance from his stable mates in the North Pole.  Whilst it is cold here today, it is obviously not that cold, he still doesn’t have his Red nose.

OK, don’t shout….. I know this is a Deer and not a Reindeer,  but I thought it was a bit of fun to stumble across this in our village this morning.

Still far too early for Christmas decorations for my liking…..  but each to his own.

Under a Spreading Oak Tree…

_DOI4771_00009-qqq

The Oak tree’s this year are loaded with acorns….a great year for the Squirrels and Jays, amongst other wildlife.  Yes, it would appear to be a good crop this season with lots of plump acorns.

If one believes the Country Folk Lore, we best get ready for a severely bad winter!

Lens – Artists Challenge # Seasonal

Snows

I have selected only one image with which to illustrate Lens-Artists Challenge #24 – SEASONAL.

Why only one image.  Well today is the 16th of December, nearly the winter solstice.  Up until a very few years ago by this time in December snow would have made not just an appearance but made us very aware of its presence. The above image was take some 4 years ago (it is in colour not monotone) and the very last occasion of snow in early December.

I guess with the recent Global Conference on Climate Change and its warnings you could perhaps say those changes are very much with us. Certainly none of our seasons, in this small part of the UK have followed the usual seasonal character’s or patterns.

So have some more fun and pop along to this link to see what others have suggested for this weeks challenge:-
