Monday mornings snow has now turned to Tuesday slush, rather dirty and grey. So I have spent the time keeping warm and sorting the file boxes. I sure am glad we had such a great day in the Peak District last week so I revisited some of those shots to to brighten up my day.
One shot I love is the lone Silver Birch tree nestling on the side of Howden Moor in Cranberry Clough in the shadow of Margery Hill. It was a striking silhouette against the blue evening sky….but perhaps the grey day has influenced me as I thought it might just look great as a monotone shot, so here you are…..
I suppose much depends upon your liking for Black and White images in todays colour packed world….but I thought it was rather nice so I went on to try some other shots taken further down the valley in the Pine and Larch woodlands…….

Frosty trees are a great motive. The problem is that it’s way too cold to take out with a camera. During the last week we’ve had temperatures around minus 15-20 C Brrr!

I can guess that you know my opinion about Black and White – I love it! But not every image works like that. Non the less, the ones you´ve chosen do! Thanks for the monochrome Oasis in a colourful world!

I guess many folk like B&W for that very reason…..we live in a vibrant colour packed world. Best wishes

When I had my Waterways In Focus exhibition on tour over twelve years ago, it was the black and whites that received the more favourable comments. To be honest I haven’t tried anything B/W since I went digital. Maybe I will give it a go. Cheers – Derek

I keep playing with it (it is even easier with digital) and keep promising myself to do more….so it is only in idle moments that I play with it – should take it more seriously. Folk do seem to like it maybe because it is now a change from todays vibrant colours. All the best Derek

The first and second shots are timeless classic – I have challenged myself to find more lone trees this year but as you know we tend to go from no trees to forests rarely the desperate to be photographed lone shot.

Lone Trees….yep, done before but I am always a sucker for them. This Silver Birch I will be back to for another go sometime.

B+W landscapes and lone trees were always my first love, photography-wise. The top two are my faves, david! More please….
