A little sun this morning did a great deal to brighten the woods (and my mood)…..dare I suggest that the worst of winter has passed. Probably not, there is bound to be a sting in its tail. Still the sun did add a welcome touch of colour to the woods and the early snowdrops…..
Even deeper into the woods, where the winters leaves are still providing plenty of ground cover it had that feeling that life was on its way back…..
Snowdrops may well be the only flowers to grace the woodlands at the moment but I for one welcome the fresh blooms, blooms that are much more robust than they appear…..![]()
Bluebells will not be in flower here for at least another month but even so the first shoots are pushing through the leaves that have provided a warm blanket for these early shoots……
On the edge of the woods there are further signs of new growth. The Variegated Holly is rapidly making new growth….
The new buds that the Rhododendron set last year are now starting to swell soon to burst with there big blousy flower heads…
But if its colour you want to add instant joy to your garden then its down to the Garden Centre where Spring Bedding is now in stock…..
Or maybe a new pot to brighten that dark corner will do the job….
Undoubtedly ‘Spring’ is on the way and for these young Scarecrows, all done out in their Sunday Best, they obviously have their eyes on something (or someone) very special……
…..A young lady no doubt and I reckon it is this ‘White Goddess’ that has turned their heads….![]()
Despite the bountiful riot of colour to be had I think I still prefer the natural colours of the winter woodland wonder land…..

Hi David. What wonderful and happy photos today. Enjoyed it very much and I will, no doubt, view them again. Funny you mentioned the White Goddess. It’s nog just a book by Robert Graves, it’s also a Pagan site: http://www.thewhitegoddess.co.uk/ I would have loved to walk with you this time. The woods must be magical right now. Knowing that life is bubbling underground waiting to show itself. It already does bit by bit. The Light has returned and we are heading for Ostara on 21st March en the Christians are heading for Easter, In fact, both are very similar: new life. Even the standing up from death is basically New life. And yes, I am a Pagan. Blessed Be. :-))

Thank you……I guess Ostara is the Spring Equinox when lightness is equal for day and night. Will try the link. Enjoy

How beautiful all these photographs… I can feel the spring touches already. But I am afraid in here, usually March makes us surprise and winter comes back… Thank you dear David, fascinated me all these garden decorations… Love, nia

Thanks for sharing these images David, lovely. I hope for your sake there are no more cold snaps to damage the new growth. We have had a very hot two weeks with temperatures ranging around 30-36 deg C with high humidity levels. The influence of good rains a month back now busy being undone.

Like I have predicted for a couple of weeks: It’s gonna be an early spring this year!
We have already experienced plus 9 degrees and the forecast is from plus 5 to plus 7 degrees, now and well past this coming weekend. And that’s gonna have a noticable effect on nature!

It is going to be interesting to observe all the more so when we take into a water table overflowing from what has been the wettest summer, autumn and winter on record…..going to be fun.

Your seasonal progression is way ahead of ours. We don’t have snowdrops, but I’m eager for the first crocuses. Isn’t it interesting that, while you have had your wettest summer and autumn on record, we have had our driest. It’s really pretty frightening when one considers the bigger picture. Meanwhile, wonderful snowdrop photos. Keep them coming, please.

It is a concern that we go from one extreme (record breaking) to another….nor can it give you much confidence when the so called experts cannot agree on what is happening. Even those with short term aims of providing weather forecasts for the next day seem to get it so wrong at the moment. Only sure thing is that we get what we get given….no choice in the matter which is perhaps a good thing.

Wonderful photos David. I also love going to the garden center right as spring approaches and dream about all the lovelies my garden needs.

As they say it ‘wets the taste buds’ ….but I think we all need to wait just a little longer before we rush to fill the garden with all that colour – let nature take its course. Best wishes to you…

well keep whispering please as we are about 3-4 weeks behind you but I did see some daffs popping through and a immature crocus teasing lol

Watching the weather reports (as one does…it becomes an obsession) it would have seemed that North East Scotland in particular has been enjoying some sunshine and of course very low temperatures under clear skies.During this time we have had grey, monotonous skies. They promise that today the tables will be reversed….sorry!
