Spring in Retreat……as Winter Returns!

D14

May be we are giving spring, and maybe even summer, a miss this year and going straight back to Winter.  After teasing us with the occasional sunny spring days this past two weeks, days which were all the more welcome for not having been forecast, we are now back to snow and winter winds direct from the even icier North East.

D-4

The forecast is for more snow with high winds to cause drifting, so we thought it prudent to take advantage in a lull between snow falls and stretch the legs, mine and the dogs, in the woods….

D-5

We did find one clump of Daffodil’s that had been foolish enough to think that warmer days were on the way, nor very sensibly keeping their heads firmly closed against the cold…….

D-9

The snow may not be as deep and as crisp and even as it has been over the winter but the woods to-day do feel really bleak and far from welcoming….

D11

So common sense suggest that returning home for a hot coffee and a slice of toast is perhaps the best option…..

D-8

and to ponder if spring will ever come for real.

    1. Might be ‘a bit’ but its enough! My diary tells me that last year we were enjoying temperatures of 18c+ hard to believe but true….in fact tomorrow we enjoyed 21c. One day perhaps.

  1. Nice winter shots in spring!
Well, we have the same thing happening here. A few teaser days of nice weather, and now the last two days have been cold and snowing. Hope spring returns to you soon.

    1. Patience …a most over used word for frustration. There is a saying that “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb”…..seems as if the lion is still growling away!

  2. I’m having my willow branches with the decoration eggs out but I’d feel more for chnging things into Christmas/YULE decorations. Because it’s the weekend I am allowed by myself to have the thermostat at 19º instead of 18º. A luxury I really cannot afford more than once a week. Taxes on energy have been raised here. So I wear a thermoshirt and trousers underneath my fleece and jogging pants. Warm socks and slippers en I am still cold. Oh well, reason enough to break another bottle of wine open…
