Spring has been so slow to make its mark this year, yet when it did everything seems to have arrived with a rush. Green growth everywhere and this Variegated Hosta is just one of those minor miracles of spring….just over a week ago there was no sign, not a glimmer of growth just plain brown earth. Then one shoot and 8 days later a mass of green fresh foliage catching some of to-days heavy rains…….
………….even a lone Aquilegia is fighting for the same ground space!
Nor is the Clematis going to be left behind. From bare twigs, to fresh leaf and swelling buds, now in just a matter of days a bud that is bursting….the first of what will be many…….
Now all we want is the sun to return and the cold winds to change direction and bring in some warm southerly air…..is it too much to hope for? I hope not.

Wonderful photo’s David. Thanks. They are a pick-me up and that’s a good feeling. Here too de spring is hiding in an autumn cloak and chasing with a stiff winds accross the seas and lands dropping lots of rain and even hail. Temperatures are between 13 and 17º and that’s just too cold for the time of the year. After this week it should be getting better since by then the Ice Saints as we call them, have been left behind. No more frost… Well, I bought some seeds for iceberg lettuce and for carrots. I will try to get me some tomatoes as well. In spite of the strong NW winds on my balcony on the 6th floor on a corner of the building in open area, some plants seem to hang on to life and I am really proud of my Easter branches from a curly (?) willow. They have abundant green leaves on them.
Hosta is not really a good one on this balcony, but plants that thrive on the ground could be an idea. I am alsways pleased to get your mails and enjoy your photos.

Glad you enjoy your visits…as to the weather we have had much more heavy rain but forecast for later is sunshine…so we hope it is good bye to the Ice Saints!. Try a Hosta in a pot, they thrive as patio plants and there are also some smaller leafed varieties.

More hope, a very good thing. I hope that your spring continues to progress more along expected lines, now that it appears to have settled in. Good luck!
