This is an Image that I have posted before but thought that it matched the challenge subject quite well…..
This is the gable end of a Cumbrian building and is typical of the style of the local construction they have used for centuries. Cumbrian Slate stone is laid ‘dry- no mortar or cement’ randomly stone upon stone. Every wall is distinctly different, so every line and pattern individual, every stone a differing shade…. and of course changes with the direction of the light.
This particular wall is the gable end of a one time shop in the village of Chapel Style and the Hovis sign is a reminder of earlier days. The Post Box is of course still in use today.

I grew up eating Hovis “brown” bread (that’s what we called it)… brings back some memories…

Yes, it was Brown Bread for us….even though it was Hovis. The golden letters still jog the memory cells.
