We soon forget!

Woke this morning to a lovely sunny day…even warm for October.  So the mists and rain of the past few days are somehow long forgotten.

Oct-5-A

There is now a slight hint of yellow and gold in the woods, but autumn proper still seems a way off, particularly with the low sun glinting through the leaves and doing its best to revitalise everything…..

Oct-5-D

The Ferns have started to succumb to the season change with their fronds, once rich green, now fading to pale yellow…

OCT-5-E

For October and given that the weather has been mild and humid I would have expected woodland Fungi to be at its best.  But so far this year they are few and far between.  One exception being this massed clump of very small fungi on an old Oak trunk……

Oct-5-F

Normally our woodland walk is peaceful….the only sounds being that of the birds and sometimes the wind in the trees.  True we do meet the occasional dog walker for Buster, Carla and I to exchange pleasantries and wag a few tails  before heading off with our own thoughts.

Not to-day….we had a rather noisy and frantic awakening as part of the wood and meadows had been fenced off for a Cyclo-Cross Event.   We stayed just long enough to see the Junior Heats pass us by…..far to energetic for us, but good luck to them…..

OCT-5-J

It is for only one day and tomorrow peace and tranquillity will return.

5th October
