There are some mornings when it all come together. Dawn light on a calm day and an out-going tide, falling, leaving a breakfast table to be enjoyed by wading birds and wildfowl….
The location is the River Wyre Estuary where it enters Morecambe Bay on the Lancashire coast. As the tide drops it exposes a river bed of sand and mud flats rich in worms and many other small creatures. It is at this time that the birds descend to probe the mud for breakfast before the creatures dive deeper into the mud for protection. Here a lone Grey Heron waits his opportunity whilst a mix of waders, Redshank, Oystercatchers, Curlew, Dunlin and Sandpiper make the most of the mornings bounty.
Good Morning all…..
