Thoughtful Thursday……. Some things don’t Change

1965--Morecambe-Bay

Sunset over Morecambe Bay from Cleveleys, Lancashire

Morecambe Bay changes with every turn of the tide.  The above image was taken back in March 1965.

Jean will have changed, and as she will admit to getting older, that will be no surprise.  Prince, the much loved German Shepherd now looks down from his Kennel in the Sky. Despite the passing of time it still brings back some great memories.

Apart from those changes, it is a scene that can be captured on the wide open sands of Morecambe Bay again today…. sunsets not always guaranteed.

Wordless Wednesday…a new month ( and a new Season ? )

COCKERHAM-sundown

Location:-  Cockerham Sands, Morecambe Bay, Lancashire

The first day of a new month.  September, the month that the Meteorological Office define, for us in the northern hemisphere, as the start of autumn.  Not sure I agree with them, their desire to break a year down into 4 equal segments ignores natures own cycle.

That said, I do find that the light from now on changes, softer, surprisingly warmer, particularly in the evenings and if you get the opportunity to be by the west coast… then a sunset glow could be your reward.

One location never seems to disappoint, is Cockerham Sands.  At the mouth of the River Lune, marked by the squat Lune Light, which marks where the Lune enters the expanse of Morecambe Bay.  You also get a double bonus, for as the tide rushes in, and it does come in fast, in rush waders and wildfowl that have been feeding on the mud flats.

Rather a lot of words for Wordless Wednesday, but I thought it worth it.  Well it is one of my Favourite Places

The year may be moving along at a pace but we still need to….

Wordless Wednesday…… Another Favourite Place

COCKERHAM-26

Location: –  Lune Light, Morecambe Bay from Cockerham Sands, Lancashire

It may well be Wordless Wednesday…… But we cannot let the passing of September go without some comment.  Indeed, it is a positive comment as September,  for the most part,  has been more like summer than summer itself.  You could say that summer was topped and tailed by a great Spring and now a great September.

September is also the time that I associate with sunsets.  They suddenly seem much more intense an intensity which I think is helped by the arrival of colder evenings.

As for my favourite places…..  The Lune Light, used to mark the entry into the River Lune from the wide expanse of Morecambe Bay, seen here from Cockerham Sands, it just has to be near the top of my list.

Where ever you are……

Wordless Wednesday…… A Favourite Place

COCKERHAM-18.11

Location:-  Sunset over Morecambe Bay and River Lune from Cockerham, Lancashire

( I am breaking the Wordless Wednesday rule with a few words.  After all the miserable dark days of late I thought something with hope would be good…after all a sunset is supposed to herald good weather ahead.  As for this favourite place, well its great at any time of day, at high or low tide, always changing and always the call of Seabirds and Waders.)

Goodbye to 2018…. another Year gone in a Flash

Sundown over Morecambe Bay Sands, Lancashire

It is goodbye to another year that has just flown bye and disappeared into our History.

Like most years it will have been a mix of the good and perhaps at times bad …..so lets just choose to remember all those good moments as they make the best memories.
