An ‘Indian Summer’…well not yet!

October is continuing to give us blue skies and sunshine and folk are saying it is an ‘Indian Summer’…may be it is! The true definition for an Indian Summer in the U.K. is when we enjoy sunny days and warm temperatures, in October BUT only after the first frosts.  So far we haven’t had nights cold enough for frost, well in our part of England.

No matter what they call it the days at the moment make it a delight to be out and about.  This morning again saw the sun rising and cutting a warm glow through the woods, silhouetting this old Chestnut Tree…..

This morning the glow was particularly warming and added that autumnal feel to the woodland even though the trees still sport most of there leaves……

Even so there have been some changes.  Under a clear sky, last night it was the coldest so far this year.  That temperature drop had a marked effect on the Silver Birch which seemed to cause them to shed their leaves then thanks to a light morning breeze they have carpeted the woodland floor…..

Peace has also returned to our woods after yesterdays sporting activities and once again a joy just to walk and enjoy the woodland sounds. Whilst the true autumn colours have yet to show, the colours that surround us seem so fresh and invigorating with just the occasional hints that things are changing…..

No doubt that first frost will be with us soon and then it will be all change!
