We were lucky….

The storms that have ravaged the southern half of England passed us by leaving us with another beautiful autumnal day.   Even though the heather flowers on the moors have long gone it still glows in the evening light.  Yes, a rich finish to the day here on Hathersage Moor, Derbyshire…..

    1. I was aware just how bad the storms were for so many south of us, so tried not to sound smug. After all the sever local weather warnings, we spent a good part of Sunday clearing the garden and ‘battening down the hatches’. It was rather surreal waking to blue skies and perfect calm.

      1. It was amazing when I saw on the news, people standing on railway stations and the trees were barely moving, and at the same time, the lighthouse here was being engulfed in waves

  1. You truly were lucky. I am glad for you. We went right trough it overhere but we were lucky too. Because in The Netherlands almost ALL electric powerlines are buried in the ground, together with gas, water and internet cables, we will almost always keep our power.
The balcony doors just about held it today. Gusts of force 12 or so made them rattle and shake and groan. It was really quite frightening. I brought all the plants on the balcony indoors. Tomorrow, I will put them out again. Even thou the forecast tells me force 9 and 7 for the coming days.
This was the first one…. two more to go according to the old tales here,
I sure hope that the powerlines will be repaired soon, that flooded houses will be dried soon and that dangerous situations will be solved.

At least I can sleep again tonight. 😀

  2. Lucky indeed, David–I’m happy for you. There were storms coming our way from the western US over the past couple of days, but we were lucky too: They petered out and are giving us only dark skies and modest rain. What gorgeous foliage you’ve presented here, and what a setting!
