For millennia the heart of any home, be a cave, wood hut, castle or city home has been and probably always will be the kitchen. This magnificent kitchen it as Holkham Hall in Norfolk. Obviously to-day it is for show……. but originally, when it was created by the Earl of Leicester in 1757, it served a very practical role in the daily running of the estate and the entertaining that ‘stately’ homes such as Holkham indulged in. Stand in this kitchen, close your eyes and you can soon imagine the hustle and bustle of cooks and maids, the chatter of voices and the clang of pots and pans….it must have been the ‘heart’ of this home.
