Hydrangea…….Alert!

8.7g

Last year I blogged on the re-opening, after much restoration work after years of neglect, of one of the countries National Hydrangea Collections here at Darley Abbey, Derbyshire.  So one year on, I thought we would revisit and see how the garden had faired over the winter and is shaping up this season.

I can report it is doing well…. but I was a tad early and need to go back in about a week. The main plants and displays are just starting to burst into flower, the best is yet to come.  So here are just two more images to wet your appetite….and just so as long as the weather behaves, I will be back!

  1. Looking forward to the profusion to come. Is the whole garden enclosed in a wall as tall as I see here?

  2. Yep…it was the vegetable garden and orangery for an old house long demolished. Many, many years ago it was chosen to house one of the national Hydrangea collections. Thrived then as with so many things in recent times money became an issue and neglect set in. The team that have restored the garden have done sterling work on very little and is nor being maintained by volunteers.
