Chatsworth House and Gardens, Derbyshire
Shortly after publishing my post featuring Chatsworth House as one of my Favourite Places (https://davidoakesimages.wordpress.com/2014/09/17/wordless-wednesday-another-favourite-place-7/) it was announced that Deborah, The Dowager Duchess of Devonshire had died.
Today Chatsworth House is closed and the Estate comes to a halt for her Funeral. The Funeral will be large, as in her long life (94 years) she has touched many peoples lives, nationally and more particularly locally where she was much loved. Many have proclaimed that it is her efforts that saved this Great House, opened it up to the public and had the vision to create a profitable agricultural estate….very much the heart of Derbyshire. I did have the privilege of meeting with her when she was Duchess, professionally with the Charity that I was involved with but also casually as a visitor to the House and Gardens. This is my small tribute to a Grand Lady

I’m jealous you got to meet her! She was a truly amazing person and Chatsworth is one of my most favorite places.

I got the distinct impression that if you worked for her you always knew who was the ‘boss’ but from comments made about her she exercised authority with care and showed concern for many, many issues. As I say, loved my most folk I know who came in contact with her….I also guess an end to an era.
