In 1914 a young man left this bedroom to become a soldier and fight in the Great War…..he never returned home

Powerful – is this the actual bed – I was listening to a piece on the radio (do a lot of that traveling around about a preserved bed which was part of the 100 years celebrations.

It was the son of the farm, and so we were told his actual room. Can only confirm that most of the personal items were his. Obviously it was set up as part of the WW1 memorials but this one did appear to be as authentic as perhaps you can ever get. I just hope that this memorial like many others I have seen this year remain and not dismantled at the start of the next season (then dug out of archive for 2018). It was much more personal on every level than the bigger pretentious displays….the exception being the poppies at the Tower of London which sadly we never got to see.
