5am….Dawn as we arrived at Isafjordur, Iceland.
It already seems a lifetime ago but it is only just over 5 weeks since we were captivated by Iceland’s charms.
Days started early and finished late. The Pilot Boat was also up early to escort us into Isafjordur in the very north west of the country. Here we headed off on a trip to what must be one of the most northerly and remotest Nature Reserves at Hesteyri close to the Arctic Circle.
Even a damp cloud covered Icelandic sky couldn’t subdue the colours of the waist high wild flowers. An evocative location, way off the usual tourist route. Once a Whaling Station then a Fish Factory with supporting village, abandoned in 1937 and left for nature to reclaim. Now a few very lucky folk have holiday houses in what is left of the deserted village.
Yep…it does seem a lifetime ago and a very different world.
