Bare Trees in Big Wood , Allestree
This last weeks rains and winds have stripped some of our trees of leaves. It is mainly the Birch and exposed Sycamore that are now standing bare catching a very brief glimpse of cold early morning sunshine.
Many of us have commented on how different this autumn has been….gentle I would say….no rush to change colours and when the change started it appeared patchy and certainly didn’t effect all species at once. Nor has there been a rush to shed leaves. The fact is many trees still have a full head of foliage, true those leaves are perhaps dry and brittle but seem in no hurry to add to the soggy woodland carpet.

I am intrigued by your carpet of leaves, David….some lovely colours, and some that appear desaturated thus bringing the coloured ones out more

Wet, dry and wet again plus a few foot falls over them an decay starts. The strange fact is that there are some leaves in places in these woods where leaves fell last winter have dried over the year yet still retain a bold colour.

Amazing! Did you desaturated the image in places, or is this ‘as is’?

As is….it was a phone shot on which I just dropped a border

Should have added the comment…that is why I grabbed the shot … a bit different to leaf shots earlier in the season

Cannot take any credit for exposure and focus….all automatic ( I still find it hard to believe just how good mobile phones can be as cameras…Someone even told me the other day you can make calls on them!!) (-:
