The Old Deer Shelter, Calke, Derbyshire
I thought I would join into the spirit of Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge (http://ceenphotography.com/2015/12/01/cees-fun-foto-challenge-buildings-and-trees/)
Buildings and Trees the subject and thought that this now rather dilapidated Deer Shelter hidden in the Beech and Chestnut Trees of Calke Estate would make a suitable subject. The Deer House dates from the time when owners of large estates would attract their Deer to congregate in specific areas, not for ease of hunting, but so that the wandering herds could be viewed from the Mansion and impress any visitors. The Shelter was stocked with food for the Deer to graze.
