Not sure but the rocks are also Kilt rocks…..so presume as they fall vertical like pleats in a kilt (skirt) that is how they got the name….or maybe that is too simplistic

A small correction to your spelling….it is by rights Mealt Falls and is the outflow from Loch Mealt. But locally and for the benefit of tourists it is commonly know as Kilt Falls as it falls over the Kilt Rocks.

Thank you. I stand corrected. Never saw the ‘ L’. Personally, I like Kilt Falls a lot better because of those stunning rocksfaces.
