A Rocky Outlook……………

Scotland

The dramatic Kilt Rock Waterfall.  The name Kilt is derived from the columns formed in the cliffs and thought to resemble the pleats in a Highland Kilt.    The waters for the falls come from nearby Loch Mealt at Ellishadder, near Staffin on the North East tip of the Isle of Skye.  North West Scotland.  Also a reminder of a rare day of sunshine across the Hebridean Islands.

Moody Monday……. It is all Skye

DOI_4919_00047qq

Its all sky, on Skye….  and a lot of water.

The land and seascapes from Neist Point are always dramatic.  More often than not wild,  and when it blows it is usually gale force.  Wet,  but occasionally sunny. No matter what the weather  it is always moody.

The view above is from  the Neist peninsular  looking towards  Waterstein Head and out across Moonen Bay.  North West Isle of Sky, Scotland.

Where ever you travel….

An Image of Hope………. just a little :-)

Disc One

Raining again today…..  We do have the promise that it will get back to weather much more like July summer weather next week..  Till then its more rain .

It all reminded me of an image of a shop front I spotted about 3 years ago.  It is a shop on the Harbourside at Portree, on the Isle of Skye, Scotland.

The cynical will say….it always rains in Scotland.  Well, Scotland and the Isle of Skye certainly get their share of ‘weather’  …..  but I can confirm it also gets a great deal of sunshine too..

So maybe they named this shop very much with tongue in cheek .

Nearly Half Way……..

Disc One

Midnight.  Loch Greshornish , Isle of Skye, Scotland

A few years ago we were on the Isle of Skye.  Mid summers eve was approaching, and as we had been enjoying a series of evenings, when the sun only briefly vanished below the horizon, I was hopeful that I would get a mid summer sunset on the actual day.

I did though have a premonition, that after such a great but short run of good weather, and being on Scotland’s West Coast, that our luck could run out.

It did.   Rain came heading in from the Atlantic.  So I was rather pleased that I had managed to get this shot, shortly before midnight, a couple of  evenings before Mid Summer.

Over the Sea to Skye…… well not quite!

Scot-9

The Cuillin Hills across Loch Scavaig from the sea cliff path above Elgol. The path takes you along to Camas Bay, seals and seabirds for companions.  The path continues, then eventually you arrive at Loch Coruisk, right in the heart of the Cuillins. I always find it strange, that this range of Mountains, are referred to on OS Maps as ‘Hills’. They are mighty mountains and tough ascents from any direction.

Although we are already on the Isle of Skye, this approach does feel as if you are arriving over the seas.  🙂

A fantastic wild area of Skye… one of the many places of many in Scotland, that I hope, once these strange times are over, to visit again.  Even though those ‘summits’ are now beyond my physical capabilities, the cliff walk is just fine.  At least I have some great memories.
