Castlerigg Stone Circle and Blencathra, Cumbria
Today, at 23.03 GMT we cross the Winter Solstice…shortest day and longest night of the year. The best bit of course is that for us in the Northern Hemisphere it is one way to summer again…yippee.
The Neolithic Stone Circle at Castlerigg has many legends and myth surrounding its past. Is it an ancient time piece measuring the suns passage through the seasons, a place of worship…..or just a market place for the trading of Stone Axe heads from the Langdales? I prefer the former a place to celebrate the seasons.
