The shadow on the fence is something that was becoming a rarity this year but it was nice to see it back. Yes, the sun was shinning and it was also warm bordering on hot, which was more than welcome as this was a Bank Holiday Weekend here in the U.K., three days to relax and enjoy…
And enjoy we did…although in truth we did very little, it was just so nice to potter about with no haste and to just sit and enjoy a time to be lazy. So the weekend was a real mix of strolls in the woods…..
where even the Bluebells where making the effort to make a display……
though I suspect the best is yet to come. Back in the garden the Snowflakes are having a last flush but very much lightening a dark corner…
Aubrietia, House Leeks and Cheery Blossom added some extra colour….
The Euphorbia had also swapped its burgundy foliage for vibrant a vibrant summer fresh green…….
The very humble Dandelion is also at its very best. The Dandelion for many is the weed of all weeds to be hated – every advert for weed killers feature this bright yellow flower without exception and ‘real’ gardeners hate it with a vengeance……..
But the Dandelion is one of natures true Wild Flowers and no meadow should be without a yellow carpet in the early summer. Each flower head to be marvelled at for its intricacy an little masterpiece…..
Back in the garden the Hedge Sparrow (Dunnock) sang loudly. We have three pairs nesting so no doubt we will soon have many more……
A much more vocal visitors constant calling, which kept us awake, was the Wood Pigeon….I kept telling him that TV aerials were not substitutes for the woods and to be off!
So perfect was the weekend that little could disturb the slumbers of our Head of Security….no Buster was moving for no one….
The weekend break is over…the upside is that we are refreshed for another week.
The downside is that the pessimists at the Met Office forecast a return to cold, wet and very windy weather before next weekend. Oh! well we have had summer…..nice whilst it lasted!
