The wall has been there for a couple of centuries. This wall to a barn was built by master bricklayers and builders long before ‘air bricks’ were invented. The diamond design was their solution to providing ventilation to the inner store room…..but the skill is that the wall is double skinned (cavity wall) and the diamond on the inside is set to one side so that whilst the air can peculate, a straight thru draft is prevented. It also shows that utility build need not be without some creative thought…..simple but clever and still standing and working as intended.
