Daisy, Daisy…….how does your garden grow?

Daisy, Daisy…..how does your garden grow?…..with Cockle Shells and Pretty Maids all in a Row…..and so forth as the nursery rhyme goes.  But this year it grows with much difficulty as the rains continue to batter the country.  Record levels of rainfall in June and already record levels in July with some places receiving a months supply in one hour!   In our local woods the ‘Rain Forest’ has returned a feature that is even rare in the winter months let alone mid summer….

We did get a little break in the grey skies and something called the sun did try to put in an appearance, all be it brief.  

It did give us a chance  to get out into the garden and see just how things were managing to survive the rains, to which the answer is ‘some better than others.

The Agapanthus has many heads but seem reluctant to burst into bloom and those that do have much smaller sprays of blooms and are also  much paler in colour than usual…

Fuchsia have bloomed in profusion and despite their delicate construction have managed to weather the storms very well….

Elsewhere baskets and borders are hanging on much in the hope that some warm sunny weather will return…

And there are still some bright little corners that have withstood the worst and give some interest even on a dull day….
