Cold day on the Moor…….

Burbage-and-Higger-Tor

A distinct change in the weather is on the way…today it has been colder than of late but still very pleasant in the wintery sun.  Wispy clouds suggest changes afoot and some locals suggest that snow will be here before the weekend.

This shot over Burbage Moor shows well the large areas of gritstone on the surface of the moor…it was chunks of rock just like these that lent themselves to be quarried and shaped, just were they were, into mill stones.  A challenging task for the craftsmen at any time but as the prevailing weather was usually a little hostile the task must have been daunting.  Just glad I can return to my desk in a warm cosy house.
