Back for a short break at what has become over the years as our second home….Low Manesty on the shores of Derwentwater, Cumbria.
Whilst most folk in the U.K. woke to another late summer spectacular I am afraid we were left to enjoy a damp and grey morning…
Not that the weather deters you from exploring this wonderful area of the Lake District and like all mountain areas the weather can quickly change and by lunch time the sun was out trying to burn away the haze….
Manesty Bay, Derwentwater
Whilst the lake itself demands your attention the tree lined shores are equally as demanding of your eye. Oak, Spruce and Pine is the mix with a carpet of fern and bracken below…….
Manesty Woods
There is one spot in the woods where there was once a small pond, despite efforts to clear and restore it the vegetation won and the pond is no more. Now it is home to not just a carpet of Sphagnum Mosses but a mini mountain range of ‘moss heaps’ rich vibrant green a soft to touch….
With luck the weather will be favourable and may be I will be able to bring you a little more flavour of our favourite retreat…..…..Fingers crossed!
