Weekly Photo Challenge. From Lines to Patterns.

This is an Image that I have posted before but thought that it matched the challenge subject quite well…..

Shop Wall, Chapel Stile, Great Langdale, Cumbria

This is the gable end of a Cumbrian building and is typical of the style of the local construction they have used for centuries.  Cumbrian Slate stone is laid ‘dry- no mortar or cement’ randomly stone upon stone. Every wall is distinctly different, so every line and pattern individual, every stone a differing shade…. and of course changes with the direction of the light.

This particular wall is the gable end of a one time shop in the village of Chapel Style and the Hovis sign is a reminder of earlier days.  The Post Box is of course still in use today.
