An Autumn of Contrasts…..

As autumns go, this year has me puzzled.  It is now November 4th and in a normal year we would have enjoyed the gold and yellows of autumn and by now most of the trees would be bare.

Not this year.  If you seek you do find a Chestnut or a Beech that is turning……

But walk a few yards further and you find another Chestnut in a green that is more reminiscent of spring green!….

and this quiet pathway illustrates that contrast well.  The leaves on the floor are mainly Birch that dried and fell at the first winds, now providing an autumn carpet of browns and gold…….

A view across the valley, whilst hinting at autumn, is still green and the trees well covered with leaf…..

I suppose the positive view is that the longer we can hang onto this unseasonal weather the better…..as with luck it will shorten the winter.
