As the Storm waned……

Stormy-Sea-1

Yesterdays storm brought winter to us in a rather violent manner here in the U.K.  Coupled with high Spring Tides coastal areas were hit rather badly….. but for the most part recently strengthened flood defences did there job during their first real test.

It wasn’t really a day for travelling far but we did have to make a family journey to the North West Coast, we had no problems and once we knew the tide had turned and was receding we thought we ought to take a quick look. Not as dramatic as a few hours earlier but still a fantastic sight to see the rollers breaking on the shore.

(Just out of camera angle there is a giant windfarm…turbines on mass.  I do wonder at the logic of such sources for the vital energy production we need.  A good part of the summer they stood idle in little or no wind.  Today the winds were just too strong)

  1. And we were lucky too. In Britain, I believe, were two casualties. In The Netherlands none this time. I am grateful for that. Several areas flooded but even that wasn’t too dramatic. I saw Norfolk footing on TV – those poor people lost their houses as they went over the cliff. I hope they were ‘only’ holiday houses so they will have a real house left.

Was it bad as well in Norway? I heard it was bad enough in Denmark so I gather it hit Norway and Sweden as well.

The photo is fabulous. All we saw was brown and grey water with beige foam on the waves. In the photo the sea lookes much more friendly.

    1. For those who were unlucky to be flooded it can only be a disaster…..so I think we will count ourselves very lucky to have avoided through shear chance the worst of the storms.,,
