Too Soon for Spring………!

6.1-Spring-Growth

We haven’t as yet had winter…true these last few weeks have brought us heavy rains and gales but with  frost on only two mornings its nothing like winter with unseasonably mild days. So is it far too soon to be seeing the first new shoots of spring.  The autumn carpet of leaves has certainly been incubating these spring bulbs….nor are they just the odd clump, far from it, as little clumps are bursting through everywhere under the trees.

Deeper into the woods and Ferns are still verdant green, fresh as in the summer months and even some new fungi is sprouting from the fallen woodland trunks……there you have it autumn, summer and spring in January!

Not that I am complaining as it is an early morning joy to head to our woods for a walk and then of course play guessing games as to which season is it to-day…….

  1. I’m afraid they may well be too eager for their own good and are likely to regret their impatience when your winter finally does arrive. But there are likely others who are a bit more cautious and will wait for a more reliable sprouting decision–at least, I hope so!

    1. I suppose there are two ways to look at it…as you say Oh dear but also Yippee here comes spring! I may be born an optimist but somehow I think Oh dear may be more appropriate…..but we can hope.

      1. As you noted, it is far too early. In my portion of the world (Nevada, USA) we are nervously watching the weather, hoping for some kind of decent precipitation. Otherwise, we are looking at a third straight year of drought. Not good. Not good at all.

        1. A Topsy Turvy Weather World. After the last 3 years I am not sure that we here know what a stable weather pattern is…..all I can say is that our extremes here are not as bad as many folk have had to endure.
