Cees Fun Foto Challenge – Trees

Mist

I love the skeletons of winters trees…whilst they may be dormant (not dead.. just sleeping) they do give life to the bleak winter woodlands.

But I need to fast forward quite a few months to get to my favourite time for trees,  that of course is autumn.  We know it is near the end of the seasonal cycle but they pass through these autumnal months with one of there most colourful displays.  Full leaf, then a touch of gold, through to bold brash golds and reds, then back to bare branches and a woodland floor carpet with golden brown leaves.  Waving goodbye….. whilst very positively saying wait till next year and we will do it all again.

Well that’s is my contribution to this weeks Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge.  I needed little encouragement to join in with the topic of Trees.

Hanging on ……

Oak Leaves.jpg

Whilst most of our trees have dropped there leaves, that carpet of golden Beech leaves lie in testimony to that. Some Oak trees have changed there unique shaped leaves from green to brown. Then there are some other Oak trees  that are defying the start of winter…..these leaves may look spring like, the reality is that they are thin and fragile, another strong wind or frost and they will be gone. For now they had a fresh feel to an otherwise bare and cold woodland

December the 1st….and Winter is officially here !

Winter Silhouettes….

Meteorologically the 1st of December is the first day* of winter. The past week has seen a marked change in the weather, dull damp and windy.

So it was rather a surprise to wake to a fresh sunny morning.  The big change of course is in the woods.  The low sun is casting long shadows of the trees, trees that are now dramatic skeletons,  with the autumn leaves carpeting the floor it is all rather different.  Nature dressing up in just another of her ever changing coats.

Even without cloths on…. trees always have that special appeal.

  • *IF today really is the 1st Day of winter…..and the winter solstice is on the 21st of December….does that mean winter only last 42 days in total?

We will be back…..

Winter Coats On

Ready for Winter…

The storms that were promised have passed us bye, no rain to speak of, but just sufficient wind to strip the leaves from the most exposed of the trees in the woods.

This morning they were bravely waving in the remaining breeze…..as if saying “we will be back in the spring….we will even put on a bright new coat for you”.

Real seasonal change is now underway.
