January 7th and now we have the first Catkins making what is a very early appearance. It is a topsy turvy medley of the seasons. New Fungi is forming on many of the fallen trees, like magic, virtually overnight……….
Moses, lichen and ferns are thriving on the recent damp conditions and mild temperatures gradually covering this fallen and rotting Silver Birch trunk…….
Far from being what should be a winter woodland scene it is still a real mix of both autumn and spring and all the more wonderful for that. I did mention once before that is will be great when they invent the camera that can bring you all the woodland scents along with the scenes…to-day it would have been well worth the sharing that invigorating woodland aroma…..better than any health spa!

What a topsy turvy world we are living in!

This has been an unexpected and definitely not unwelcome opportunity for sudden color, but isn’t it a bet worrisome at the same time? I can’t help thinking that it’s yet another indication that the natural cycles are seriously off-track, I’m sorry to say. On the other hand, it does make for several superb subjects, and that is one fine fungus foto!

Not sure what nature has in mind at the moment. If we get a proper winter it is bound to damage the early arrivals…if it is only a brief visit then maybe the slow performers will be O.K. Then of course how will spring react to either an early start or a delayed start? We will find out but the underlying trend of this past few years is a worry
