The now decaying wall of a long forgotten Walled Garden, now a perfect home for Ivy. Ivy seems to have been the one plant that has really thrived over what has been the mildest winter on record. It may well look good as it clothes many of the woodland trees…..but that is not good news for the tree over the longer term.

What I really love in your country, David, is that old (dead) trees are allowed to stay until they fall over but also old buildings. In the Yorkshire wolds I know of several old walls and even remains of barns that look like they belong in a fairy tale. In my country where there are laws and regulations for about everything things are over regulated. We are rapidly losing our history. Both in towns and cities as in villages and in the countryside. It’s not ‘tidy’ enough… Where I so love the ‘untidyness’ in Britain, even our footpaths in may nature areas are asfalted over. With bins everywhere,,,, 😀
And, I really like Ivy. In Spring it makes the most beautiful green leaves.
