A Big Change in the Weather

What a change in the weather….after all the rain and thunder storms, today (and we are told for the next few days) we have blue skies and a blistering hot sun…Yep today we are currently at 27c.  Now I am not complaining  but the Weeping Willows gave some welcome shade on todays walk and a waterside path always cools you down.

The Wild Dog Roses looked just great basking in the sun whilst the red bricks of the Ha Ha* seemed to absorb the heat like a magnet…..

Some thoughtful sole has thought once again to bring just a little of the colour, from outside, to brighten our indoor life just that extra bit with a summer bouquet…..

* A Ha Ha – just in case you are wondering what a Ha Ha is let me explain.  It is a boundary wall in a garden, usually of a large mansion or similar.  On one side the ground level is level with the top of the wall.  This is the side that is seen from the house….or rather not seen, being effectively below the ground it isn’t visible.  On the opposite side of the wall there is a large ditch.  This prevents any cattle, sheep or Deer straying into the gardens. The view from the gardens the provides a clear uninterrupted view of the larger estate or landscape.  Why is it called a Ha Ha, well I don’t know but some say, that in the dark and if you were walking in the garden you may just fall over the wall and into the ditch….your companions would then laugh and say “Ha Ha”….well that the story anyway!
