They say that a weed is simply a flower in the wrong place and that may well be true. However I also find the categorising of Wild Flowers by some as weeds rather disturbing. Rosebay Willowherb* is just coming into flower, tall spikes around which the flower heads cluster in shades of pink and magenta. It grows thickly on roadside verges and in sunny woodland glades. Magnificent displays of summer colour in the wild green world. To some this plant needs to be eradicated like Knotweed and Himalayan Balsam. No doubt there is some merit in controlling some invasive none native species but I do feel that some conservationist try to play god too often……and least not forget that in days gone bye it was a Herbal medicine.
* I believe that it is related to the North American plant know as Fireweed.

Totally agree. These are beautiful (not quite as bloomy here yet), and you can eat them too.. We call them goats hair, probably because of what happens after the blooming..
