Not what was forecast

Despite dire weather warnings it is sunny again today.  So no complaints here, if there is a break in the weather to come we are hoping it will only be a brief blip!

So taking advantage of the good weather we headed of to the moors for an invigorating walk with the dogs.  At the moment the moors are far from bleak. Right now it is the bright green fronds of the bracken that is the dominant colour on the moor……but in about a months time it will be the bright purple of the Heather that will change the appearance yet again whilst adding a distinctive fragrance.  The flower buds are just starting to smell and take on a hint of the colour to come. When they burst the bees will move in for the fragrant pollen to make the much prized Heather Honey.

(I will try to replicate this shot in a months time to show the spectacular change)

Foxglove-2

Bracken does dominate large areas of the moor. Foxgloves (Digitalis) occasional break through and stand like coloured beacons with their Pink trumpet like flowers on the top of their tall stems….an appetiser before the moor is swamped with the purple glow of the heather….some say that will be the first sign of the approach of autumn.  I think it is just another high spot of the summer!

As for the weather….well I just hope that the forecasters have it wrong and summer can continue to cheer us.
